About Violin Lessons

Kim is a Suzuki trained violin teacher who taught the Suzuki method for over 25 years. She taught at Edmonton’s Society for Talent Education, a private Suzuki school which later became the Suzuki Charter School for most of this time.

Kim’s specialty is beginners and has taught children as young as 4 years old. She believes that a good foundation is essential to learn to play and enjoy the violin.

Now retired from formal Suzuki teaching, Kim has decided to open up spaces for online students. For young beginners, it is essential that a parent be part of the lesson to help reinforce what is learned between lessons (yes…they have to practice!) Part of the Kim’s philosophy is that the parent learn to play along with the child. While this is not essential, it is recommended.

Violins

It is critical that a violin is sized properly for a student. If you don’t have a violin, please consult with Kim before buying and she can help find the size that works.

Technical Requirements

Lessons can be done on Skype, Facetime or Facebook Messenger. Please indicate the preferred method when booking a lesson. Because it is important to see what Kim is doing, tablets or computers are recommended but phones can be used.

Costs

Under normal circumstances, first consultation and first lesson are free. (2 – 30 minute sessions) After that, lesson fees are $25 for each 30 minute block. 30 minutes is the maximum recommended length for young children. Older children and adults may book 2 – 30 minute blocks in a row if desired.  Fees are payable via eTransfer or Square Online Payments via credit card and are due within 24 hours after the lesson.

However

These are far from normal circumstances. Many are out of work or facing additional financial hardships. If you can pay the standard fees, please do. If you can pay anything at all, pay what you can. And if you can’t pay anything, that’s fine too.

Please inquire if you’d like more information.
